Beth Zonderman

Hi. I'm a designer. In short, I do:

Creative problem solving
Visual communication
Experience crafting

Since 1993 I've produced work ranging from large CMS-driven websites and interactive multimedia features, to information design. I can hand-code with the best of them but I thrive in a collaborative role as the bridge between developers and stakeholders. In that capacity, my big-picture understanding of both delivery mechanisms and business goals informs design decisions. Please read on to learn about what I can do for you.

Here are some examples

Capabilities

  • Art direction, project management, photo shoots, style guides, project scoping, vendor relations, de-coding mixed messages, focusing on goals
  • Content extraction and generation, multimedia features, copy writing and editing
  • Wireframes and interaction flows, Ix/UI/UX design, information design, visual design
  • Front-end web development, content management systems, documentation, training, collaboration with developers
  • Graphic design, mechanicals, image retouch, type-setting, pattern repeats, illustration, bookbinding, press checks, print buying

Deliverables: Websites, multimedia galleries, interactive presentations, icons, animations, style guides, logos, landing pages, html emails, banners, application UI, collateral, publications, signage, annual reports, limoncello

Really good work, really fast, with no drama

Profile

Good: Since 1993, I have been one of those designers who can produce her own designs. That means they are as beautiful and professional on screen or in print as they were in presentation.

Fast: The years have honed my skills. I work efficiently and deliver files that don't need to be fixed. And I'm an absolutely scrupulous time-keeper, so in the end my clients save money.

No drama: Your design isn't about me. I communicate your message to your audience in a way they will understand, and that promotes your professional image.

What's my story?

Bio

By way of a fine art training and book arts focus, I found Quark XPress and never looked back. I started my career as an advertising designer in post-revolution Czech Republic. Back then designers did delivered postscript files for output to film, account managers had only a basic understanding of capitalism, and large foreign corporations demanded a level of service previously unknown in the Soviet arena.

A few years later, when I started designing websites, a third of the population didn't have telephones. Web designers coded, scripted, wrote copy, pitched clients and tried to convince programmers of the need for attractive, usable interfaces.

Ready to move west, I went to London and worked in award-winning agencies, design studios, and a web shop where I learned to love Content Management and back-end geekery while continuing to blaze the trail of user experience. After a few years of too much rain and pavement, I continued west to San Francisco. I finally arrived in the leanest of lean times but managed to develop a steady freelance practice and later work as an interaction designer for the Academy of Art University's Online Degree Program.

My broad skill set and ability to make design happen by whatever means necessary has served my clients well. But don't take my word for it - read some testimonials to hear from them.

What do my clients say?
